Hey Sadboyloko! As soon as I saw the title of your post was about Juice WRLD I had to read it because I agree we lost a legend rip :(. I just want to say how much I appreciated you bringing awareness to the stigmatization of mental illness especially among specific groups of people/cultures. I can relate to you in that I too come from a family where mental illness is not a popular topic of discussion and when telling your family about it the response is not the best.
I just want to also mention how not only is it hard for people of specific cultures to tell others about their struggles but that there is a specific stigmatization of mental illness with men. I definitely believe that with men it’s so much harder for them to admit that they are suffering with mental illness because men in our society are taught and conditioned to grow up not showing much, if any, emotion. They are always told to be strong and not cry which shouldn’t how it be at all cause at the end of the day we are all human. So I just wanna also say that I really appreciate you putting yourself out there by mentioning how you have dealt with your own inner struggles and I think that’s amazing that you feel confident enough in yourself to tell everyone that :). I hope that you have the support that you need to be able to get through whatever you may be going through and if you ever need an ear to listen I’m more than happy to listen. I give pretty good advice (I mean I am an advice page after all lol).
You know I also wanna talk about the stigmatization behind drug addictions and using drugs as a coping mechanism because it makes me so upset and mad when I hear or see people making fun of people with those addictions like addiction is a disease in itself and it doesn’t help when we put others down for things that are almost impossible to control. For example soon after Juice WRLD’s death, I saw videos going around on TikTok of people using his song “Lucid Dreams” to make fun of the seizure he had which resulted in his death. How sick of a human being do you have to be to use someone’s own song to make fun of their death like that just disgusting to me. People really will do anything to just get some views and attention on the internet and it’s so sad that that is the mindset that some people have.
So to make a longish rant short, be kind to people because you really don’t know what someone may be going through the least we can do is be decent, respective human beings to each other, normalize men showing their emotions, and try to be helpful rather than judgemental to those dealing with a mental illness or addiction. Alright that’s all for this week. Peace!
